AMERICAN LIBERTY FORUM RESOLUTION
Restoring Trust and Integrity in Our Texas House

​WHEREAS recent allegations concerning a meeting with Michael Quinn Sullivan
that was initiated by Texas House Speaker Dennis Bonnen and joined by State Representative Dustin Burrows, at-the-time Chairman of the Texas Republican House Caucus and current Chairman of the Texas House Ways & Means Committee, have caused many Texans to distrust our elected officials and government as a whole; and


WHEREAS the substance of the recorded conversation of the meeting is reported to show undeniable evidence of scandalous premeditated corruption, bribery, and subjugation with the appearance of undermining individuals elected to serve their districts, as well as, disregard the Rule of Order in the Texas House; and


WHEREAS after the meeting was reported, recent allegations state that the Speaker denied and obfuscated the truth about the premise of the meeting, the remarks he made, and the prepared list of 10 targeted representatives Speaker Bonnen and Chairman Burrows hoped would be ‘taken out’ in the 2020 election with Mr. Sullivan’s help; and


WHEREAS upon taking office, an elected official takes an oath to faithfully execute the duties of the office, which the citizens of Texas deserve and expect to be done with principled leadership and integrity; and


WHEREAS the Republican Party of Texas sets high standards of conduct for its members from the precinct level to the Office of Governor,


BE IT RESOLVED that the American Liberty Forum (ALF) affirms that corruption and bribery within our state government shall not be condoned and that, we call for the immediate resignation of Texas House Speaker Dennis Bonnen and Chairman Dustin Burrows and,


BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that because Representative Morgan Meyer and Representative Matt Krause, who are tasked to investigate these crimes of bribery in the General Investigating Committee of the House, have already received in-kind campaign contributions from Speaker Bonnen’s PAC, we wholeheartedly concur with the House General Investigation Committee’s action to refer this matter to the Public Integrity Unit of the Texas Rangers for an unbiased report that will be made public at its conclusion and,


BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we believe the Republican Party of Texas (RPT) should issue a public statement condemning the actions of Speaker Bonnen and Chairman Burrows, address the gravity of the damage, and assure the public that RPT will not tolerate anything that compromises ALF’s conservative principles and standards.


BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to Governor Greg Abbott, Lt. Governor Dan Patrick, Republican Party of Texas State Chairman James Dickey, Texas State Senator Bob Hall, SD 2, Texas State Representative Morgan Meyer, HD108, House Speaker Dennis Bonnen, Representative Dustin Burrows, Republican Party Dallas County Chair, Rodney Anderson and SD16 SREC committee members, Susan Fountain and Randy Dunning.
